4 Ways to Think About a Home Office

If you work from home, having a home office is a no-brainer.

If you work from home, having a home office is a no-brainer. Since remote work has become commonplace, homeowners have been making makeshift home offices. They get their job done from the kitchen island, dining room table, or even have cornered crevices in their bedrooms designated for work. It helps to create a clear physical distinction between work and merely enjoying being at home. Every person is different, requiring unique expectations out of their perfect workspace. Still, some guidelines will benefit anyone. Here are four ways to think about a home office.

If Your Home Office Chair Isn’t Comfy, You Won’t Be As Productive.

If you work an eight-hour work shift or longer, there isn’t anything more uncomfortable than trying to work in a chair that hurts your back. Pick a chair that accommodates your height, weight and cushions your back. Choose an ergonomic and sturdy desk chair. Yes, it should be stylish, but comfort should come first. You may also want to add a lounge chair that you can relax in when you’re not typing away at the keyboard.

The Proper Lighting Matters

When you’re working, you don’t want to strain your eyes. You also don’t want migraine-inducing lights because they’re so bright. When you play with a mixture of lighting, you’re helping yourself become more productive. However, you’re also adding visual interest into this space. If you add string lights throughout your desk, it detracts from that stuffy, traditional office feel. You also want to consider placing your office in an area where a lot of natural sunlight illuminates the room.

Artwork Makes a Home Office More Personable

Unless you own a home-based business and clients are coming into your home, you can play around with the artwork in your office space. By not being in a commercial office, you don’t have to worry about your artwork being too eclectic for the office. A gallery wall genuinely makes a difference and plays into a more homey ambiance.

Color and Greenery Makes a Difference

White walls may cause you to zone out while working, and not in a good way. When you add some color to any walls in your home, it changes your mood entirely. If you pick the right wall color, you may find yourself more inspired to spend in the office versus dreading going there. Even an accent wall can make a home office feel more dynamic. Also, indoor plants can help you become more focused, more productive while helping you feel calmer.
