Creating a Welcoming Guest Room

Having a well-designed guest room is all about making your guests feel welcome in your home. This is mostly done through design and aesthetics, although there are also some more practical considerations to keep in mind as well.

As the pandemic is seemingly winding down, many homeowners are looking forward to a future where they can entertain guests again. As such, the guest room is becoming one of the targets for new remodeling projects. Having a well-designed guest room is all about making your guests feel welcome in your home. This is mostly done through design and aesthetics, although there are also some more practical considerations to keep in mind as well. Here are some of the best tips to help you when planning a remodeling project for your new guest room.

Aesthetic Considerations

The main idea with aesthetics in a guest room is to use natural, soothing color tones. Check out your flooring and current paint choices in the room – this will inform some of the choices that you’ll have to make. Blue is typically considered a calming color, so this may be a starting point if you don’t have any other ideas – also consider light browns and green shades as well. Light colors can make a room appear more spacious than it actually is. In addition to colors, lighting also plays a big role in the feel of a space. Consider adding a dimmer switch for the overhead lighting, and add some lamps so your guest can control exactly how much light they have in the room.

Storage Space in the Guest room

Adding enough storage space is especially important if you’re planning on hosting family or other guests for an extended period of time. While you can get a dresser from the store, you can also add some more storage during the remodeling process with a closet. Outfit this closet space with additional shelving and organizers. You might even consider providing your guests with an iron and ironing board in case they need to get rid of wrinkles from their clothes.

Consider a Guest Bathroom

It’s not always necessary, but a guest bathroom is also a great idea if you are remodeling a guest space. Your guests will appreciate the personal touch that can come with having their own bathroom, even if it’s just a half-bath setup. Consider how you’re planning to use your guest room and remodel based on this.
